Costigliolo works in painting and also design and graphic arts. He holds numerous individual exhibitions in Uruguay and abroad, highlighting those of the Museum of Modern Art of San Pablo, 1956; Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, 1957; Ateneo Barcelonés, Barcelona, 1958; Pan American Union, Washington, 1966.

José Pedro Costigliolo was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1902. He was one of the first non-figurative painters of his country. Costigliolo was a student of Vicente Puig and Guillermo Laborde from 1921 to 1925. The artist was one of the founder of the non-figurative art group in 1952 with his wife Maria Freire. From 1957 to 1959, the artist specialized in glass stain art in Europe.
